Who We Are

Kew Park Montessori Day SchoolKew Park Montessori Day School was founded in 2000 in the Beaches and has been located at 79 Hiawatha Road in Leslieville since 2002. Tacha Pearce-Miller and Tarynn Parry assumed ownership of the school in 2006. Both Tacha and Tarynn bring experience, enthusiasm and energy to their roles as principals of Kew Park.

Our dedicated and experienced classroom teachers, specialist teachers, childcare and support staff are an integral part of our tightly knit Kew Park community.  Our teachers act as facilitators of learning and closely observe the students in order to best meet the children’s needs. Teachers develop individual lesson plans for all students and maintain detailed records of their progress.

All our classroom teachers are certified Montessori teachers from accredited Montessori teacher training institutions.  We are committed to teacher development and our staff participate in workshops, off-site observations, special training seminars and educational conferences throughout the year.  Mentoring between our staff is also encouraged. We are always trying to learn more and apply what we have learned.

Kew Park Montessori Day School is a small school of approximately 125 students.  We believe that young children develop best in an intimate school environment. At our school, everyone knows one another and children feel comfortable and safe to be themselves, share their ideas and take risks. Our students leave here with the confidence to meet challenges in the next stage of their lives.

Kew Park Montessori Day School is proud to be one of the small number of Montessori schools across Canada to be accredited by the Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators (http://www.ccma.ca).  This distinction means that we deliver an authentic Montessori programme, and we have successfully completed the accreditation process, which includes a comprehensive review of our policies, standards and practices by a C.C.M.A. team.  As an accredited Montessori school, we adhere to a wide range of criteria, including:

  • Each of our classrooms are equipped with a full range of Montessori learning materials.
  • Each of our classrooms have three-year multi-age groupings.
  • Our programmes for children three – six years of age require attendance five days per week.
  • All our teachers have received their training at recognized AMI or MACTE teacher training institutions.

Accreditation helps establish a consistency of standards and the preservation of the Montessori philosophy of education. That consistently high standard of programming is expected long-term.  We are re-accredited every five years to ensure we provide the best-quality Montessori education available in Canada.

We are also licensed under the Ministry of Education as an independent school and childcare centre.  We are inspected annually to ensure we meet all the legislative requirements for our childcare.
